Wendy Palmer has been selected as the
Alberta artist to participate in the Campbellford Memorial Hospital
Foundation "The Other Canvas" fundraising event www.theothercanvas.ca/event.html.
Wendy wanted to paint an exclusive part of Alberta so she decided
to paint the Endangered Whooping Crane http://cmhfoundation.wordpress.com/
, whose natural summer breeding ground lies in northern Alberta,
plus currently a very significant conservation effort is being conducted
through the Calgary Zoo to ensure the long term survival of this
species. Whooping Cranes are one of three Canadian bird species
listed as globally endangered by the World Conservation Union. The
Calgary Zoo's Centre for Conservation Research works closely with
husbandry and veterinary experts at the zoo's Devonian Wildlife
Conservation Centre to find ways to increase the bredding success
of whooping cranes, which plays a major role in increasing the world's
population of this amazing bird.
